  • Web space - If you are to have a web site available to the on-line community, then you need somewhere to physically locate it. Mention has already been made of a web "address" (the www... thing), but for the public to find it, the computers which run the world wide web need to know a consistent location for it, and a location which many surfers can reach at the same time. For most of us that means hiring commercial web-space on a web server somewhere. From preference, this server needs physical security (e.g from burglars, fire etc) and electronic security (from hackers, viruses etc), and a good link to the telecom lines which make up the backbone of the world wide web. Bear in mind, though, that the companies which provide these services do charge and this could be, possibly, £150 a year, depending upon the service you want. If you wish, we can arrange web space for you.
  • Design development - So you decide to go ahead with a site. Great. You commission your site and give the designer your headed paper, copies of logos, your initial text and ideas, your key words and descriptions, and a time scale. Make sure that your designer agrees to come back to you with a draft for approval BEFORE you go public. You should treat a web-site in exactly the same way as you would an advertisement, an annual report, or a press release. It is essential that it is proof read before being uploaded to that secure web server! Your designer should be able to make it available to you alone, on a secure web-site, or supply the draft to you on disk.
